A vet in Whyalla has unveiled the region’s first fast electric vehicle (EV) charging station, aiming to raise awareness about the harmful effects of petrol fumes on pets.

The RAA is currently in the process of deploying 140 EV charging stations throughout the state.

However, frustrated with the slow pace of the rollout, veterinarian Andrew Melville-Smith decided to install his own charging station at the Whyalla Vet Clinic.

Dr. Melville-Smith advocates for electric vehicles due to the negative impact of car emissions on pets’ health, emphasizing the need to transition away from fossil-fueled vehicles.

The RAA acknowledges the private sector’s contribution to supplementing public infrastructure and believes that a minimum viable network of 140 charging stations will help electrify the vehicle fleet in South Australia.
