The Review into Whyalla’s birthing services has been completed after being suspended suspended in June due to a lack of midwives.
An independent review has now provided eight recommendations to address the issues, all of which have been accepted by the Flinders and Upper North Local Health Network.
The review identified factors such as a strained relationship between midwives and executives, outdated facilities, and a lack of workforce incentives.
Pregnant women have been redirected to alternative locations for childbirth, while antenatal and post-natal care continues at Whyalla Hospital, with medical staff ready for emergencies.
The goal is to reinstate birthing services as soon as possible, focusing on improved facilities and workforce support.
