SAPOL are facing significant challenges in responding to critical incidents promptly, with staff shortages and recruitment issues blamed.

It comes after an incident in the Far North, where police took six and a half hours to respond to a grade one call-out involving domestic violence.

The woman had reported her partner threatening her with a knife – a situation that should have seen officers on the scene within 15 minutes.

The delay has raised alarms about the pressure on police resources in regional areas.

Police Minister, Dan Cregan, stated that measures are being implemented to tackle these issues, including active recruitment and country-based incentives like accommodation and financial relief for officers.
