Driver arrested following police pursuit in Whyalla Norrie

A woman has been arrested following a police pursuit in Whyalla.

A Suzuki hatch failed to stop for mobile driver testing on Cartledge Avenue in Whyalla Norrie at about 12:30am on Sunday morning.

A police pursuit ensued through the Legends Estate, where a rear passenger jumped out of the car.

The Suzuki collided head on with the patrol car on Neil Kerley Court before breaking down a short distance away.

Fortunately, there were no injuries.

A police search of the car allegedly uncovered drugs and drug paraphernalia.

The driver of the car, a 40-year-old Whyalla Norrie woman, was arrested and charged with engage in a police pursuit, drive unlicensed, drug trafficking and breach of bail. She also tested positive to methamphetamine and cannabis. The sample was sent for forensic testing.

She will front Whyalla Magistrates Court today.

A 32-year-old man was also reported for failing to truly answer questions. He will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

A child found in the front passenger seat was returned home to family.

The vehicle was impounded for 28 days.
