Police are searching for opals stolen in a smash-and-grab in Coober Pedy between Tuesday night and the following morning.
The theft occurred at an opal store on Hutchinson Street with police from the Far North Local Service Area then alerted.
According to Detective Sergeant Kelly Lavington, the value of the stolen opals was speculated to be in the thousands of dollars.
A Unique 23-carat multi-coloured free-formed teardrop opal, a unique decorative fish opal, a dragon opal, and a quantity of white cut and polished opals is among what was stolen.
A man has been arrested but police require the public’s help and are urging people to be on the lookout on online marketplaces.
