A man has been charged with multiple counts of assault after an incident in Risdon Park.
A 79-year-old local man was out for his morning walk at Woodward Park just before 7am on Tuesday 22 April when he was allegedly assaulted and knocked to the ground by a younger man.
It is also alleged the suspect stole the elderly veteran’s military hat and watch during the altercation.
A 56-year-old Risdon Park woman and her dog were also allegedly assaulted when she attempted to assist the elderly man.
A 49-year-old Risdon Park man tried to intervene and was allegedly assaulted, before the suspect left the scene.
The elderly man was taken to hospital to have his injuries assessed, while the other victims did not require medical treatment.
Police launched an investigation, and arrested a 24-year-old Risdon Park man later that night.
He was charged with disorderly behaviour, property damage, aggravated assault, aggravated robbery, ill treatment of an animal, and two counts of assault emergency worker.
He was refused police bail and appeared in court last week.
The elderly man’s hat was recovered, however his silver Workman’s watch is still missing.
