Port Pirie Hospital’s proposed move to the Flinders and Upper North Local Health Network has been met with some push back.
Independent Member for Narungga, Fraser Ellis, is advocating for the Spencer Gulf service to be shifted out of the Yorke and Northern Local Network to even up the distribution of local hospitals.
Mr Ellis recently gathered 10,000 signatures for the move, where he said it would balance things out between the two networks.
There are currently 16 hospitals or medical services in the YNLHN, while there are only seven in the FUNLHN.
However, Member for Stuart Geoff Brock has rejected the proposal, saying having major hubs in Port Pirie, Port Augusta and Whyalla under the same umbrella will not be in the best interest of patients.
He said there were fears that the hospital’s move could impact attracting and retaining staff in the future.
