Teenager arrested in Whyalla

A Whyalla Norrie teenager was arrested on Thursday, 30 May, after smashing windows on Jenkins Avenue in Whyalla.

Just before 5:30pm, police were called to the area after reports a boy had smashed windows to nearby businesses and left the scene.

The 17-year-old returned to the scene later, further damaging windows and throwing a piece of glass at a victim, which hit her on the foot.

When police arrived, the boy ran from the scene and was arrested a short distance away on Gallagher Street.

He’s been charged with four counts of damage and one count of assault, and will appear in court on 31 July.

Whyalla City Council responded to the incident, saying several recent shop thefts are being investigated by SAPOL.

They say they’re in constant communication with SAPOL regarding incidents of crime, and they feel confident in their response to incidents.
